Evergreen shrubs; tough, oval-shaped, waxy leaves with pointed tips

 

Blooms white to pink urn-shaped flowers April to July 

 

Blueberries ripen between July and September

 

USES: 

Berries: Eaten fresh, cooked, or dried, used often in jams, mashed and dried into cakes or made into fruit leather 

 

Traditional food for many northwest coast peoples 

 

Berries can be used to create a purple or dark blue dye 

 

Leaves can be used in cooking to provide flavor
